Art of Traveling Light

Pack It Up! Maximise your luggage space and master the art of travelling light with these smart packing tips.

1) Weather check
Look up the weather forecast for your destination a few days before departure, and take note of any special events or occasions. Pack only what you’ll need and skip the “just in case” extras.

2) Do your homework
Reach out to your hotel to check what in-room amenities are available—such as towels, hair dryers, shampoo, and toothbrushes—so you can leave non-essentials at home.

3) Downsize toiletries
Pick up travel-size versions of your favorite products. If you can’t find them on travel packs, get small plastic bottles and decant from larger ones.

4) Leak-Proof Your Liquids
Prevent spills by storing toiletries in ziplock bags. For added protection, squeeze out excess air from bottles to avoid pressure-related leaks mid-flight.

5) Pre-Pack by Outfit
Organise clothes by day or activity and pack each set in clear plastic bags. This saves time and space—no more digging through your luggage to find a single item.

6) Bring a Reusable Tote
Tote bags come in handy for carrying loose items like magazines, neck pillows or umbrellas—and double as eco-friendly shopping bags during your trip.

7) Roll-it up
Rolling clothes helps save space and reduces wrinkles. It’s a tried-and-true trick that seasoned travellers swear by.

8)  Wear Your Bulkiest Items
Save suitcase space by wearing heavier items—like jackets or sneakers—while you travel.

9) Protect the Rest from Your Shoes
If you want to make sure everything else in your bag stays clean and odor free, place the shoes inside old socks and then inside airtight plastic bags.

10) Make a list and check it TWICE
Write down everything you need before you pack. It’s the simplest way to stay organised and avoid forgetting essentials.

11) Keeping the details safe
Store soft copies of important documents—like your passport and itinerary—in your email or cloud storage. It’s a lifesaver in case of loss or theft.

Quick Getaways for the Long Public Holiday Weekend

Public Holidays are a nice break for a short recharge, but nothing beats spending a workday away from the office and work. Taking an additional one or two days off coinciding with public holidays is a great way for us to enjoy that long public holiday weekend and the well-deserved break.

We’ve lined up some ideas for quick getaways be it alone, with your partner, friends, or family!

Langkawi, Malaysia

Beach getaways are aplenty in Southeast Asia and Langkawi is one that is easily accessible in the region. Indulge in a relaxing weekend chilling by the beach and take it slow. For calm waters and soft white sand, Pantai Cenang is the choice beach to be with restaurants and bars aplenty for a quick bite. Stay right at the heart of it all at beachfront boutique hotel Casa del Mar Langkawi, wake up, take no more than 50 steps and you’re on the beach. For a slightly quieter alternative, opt for Tanjung Rhu and immerse yourself in picturesque limestone crags.

If chilling all day is not for the active person in you, get close to nature and explore its stunning geological features with a visit to the mangrove wetlands or into the woods at Darulaman Sanctuary. You may also want to go on a snorkelling trip out to one of the 99 islands that make up Langkawi or partake in adrenaline-pumping activities like the SkyTrex adventure obstacle course or water sports like parasailing.

Explore limestone caves at Kilim Geoforest Park.

Go bird watching at Darulaman Sanctuary.

Bali, Indonesia

Bali is a popular destination for many but this island offers so much more than its beaches. A popular tourist destination known for its beaches and surfing spots, you can simply spend the long weekend chilling away, catch a surf break or learn to surf!

Catch the waves at one of Bali’s famous beaches.

This island is deep-set in its Balinese culture, there is more to explore where tradition meets modernity. Spend your time discovering the best traditional crafts and food, visit its many majestic temples and scenic lakes, and perhaps partake in a Melukat – a purification experience to neutralise any negative energies within you.

Traditional craftsmen like this silversmith are a gem to find. Make your own jewellery as you learn this basic craftsmanship from the best.

For a more adventurous getaway, explore the wild, open side of North Bali and spend your time catching the sunrise at the many treks you can take up the island’s central mountains. Bali makes a nice quick getaway but you can end up spending weeks on end here and still find new places to explore.

Get Your Thrill of Adventure in Phuket

Phuket has always been known for its beautiful beaches and neighbouring islands and clear blue waters, but there are much more adrenaline-filled adventures if you’re up for it. If you’re looking for a holiday that brings a mix of chill and adventure, Phuket is the right place to be!

Free-fall from a bungy facility, traverse terrains on an ATV, white water raft through rapids, ride the waves on a surfboard. These are just some of the action-packed adventures you can look forward to when you plan your next trip to Phuket.

Bungy jump from 15-storeys high

Take a leap of faith off the platform from 50 meters (equivalent to the height of a 15-storey building) above a jungle lagoon, and don’t forget to enjoy the panoramic views of the jungle surrounds while you’re at it (if you manage to keep your eyes open!). The choice of bungy is yours – opt for a classic solo bungy, or go all out and get yourself dipped into the water as you fall with the water touch bungy. If the thought of leaping off a ledge 50 meters above ground is too intimidating, try catapult bungy, sometimes known as the reverse bungy, where you start on the ground and get catapulted up in the air. Grab a friend and go tandem for that mutual support if all else fails. Don’t forget to check out Phuket Bungy for that adrenaline-pumping activity!

Catch a surf

Phuket has been gaining popularity as a destination for surfers to hang and ride the waves. During the monsoon season between May to October, surfers from all over Thailand (and the world) flock over for a ride. Even if you’re new to this sport, the waves are still suitable for you to learn to get yourself standing up on the board. We have the best beach recommended for you to catch on some of that surfing action.

Flying Hanuman is Phuket’s most exciting treetop zipline adventure, with 16 exhilarating zip lines, multiple abseiling points, and high elements. Zipline across an ultra-long 400-meter zip wire, abseil down an ancient tree and even fly alongside a buddy on the dual zip line and keep your adrenaline pumping.

While providing you with an exciting memory of your holiday, Flying Hanuman also finds ways to maintain the natural balance of the forest environment that it is set up within, making sure that this zipline adventure does not have any negative effect on the trees they use, neither does it affect the livelihood of those who live on the hillside.

White water rafting down rapids

While there aren’t any large rivers on Phuket Island, you’ll be able to head to Song Preak River in the nearby Phang Nga forest. Don’t worry if you’re new to rafting. Some basic training and safety instructions will be given, and the rapids are class 2 and class 3, tame enough that even kids can join in this rafting adventure.

📷: @saiiptn / Instagram

There are tours that bring you through different courses, usually 5km, 7km, or 9km, depending on your appetite for thrill. The best part about white water rafting in Phuket is it is available all year round, though it is best from June to November during the rainy season since there will be higher rainfall.

Ride the ATV for some off-road fun

The Big Buddha is an iconic landmark in Phuket and if you’re planning to visit it, why not throw in a little more thrill by hopping on a quad bike and go on an ATV adventure along the way. Drive through hilly terrain and muddy trails, and enjoy a bumpy time as you go off-road through the jungle until you finally reach the main road leading up to the Big Buddha. Take a break from your ride, and capture the panoramic view of Phuket, before heading back down.

At the end of each day’s adventures, take it slow and stroll down Old Phuket Town, and eat your way around at some of these trusted places.

Riding the Wave in Phuket

Home to lush inland forests, picturesque bays, and of course, beautiful soft white sandy beaches, Phuket attracts visitors from all around the world all year round. While many visit during the high (dry) season from November to April for the sun and calm seas, this island destination has also gained fame in the past few years as a surfing destination during the low (monsoon) season.

The best waves happen here between May and October, which also happens to be the low season in Phuket because of rainier weather and rougher waves. The upside to the weather is expecting fewer crowds and taking advantage of discounted hotel rates.

There are many beaches available for a fun surfing experience but Kata Beach is considered one of the best on the island, with waves suitable for both beginners and advanced surfers. You will also be able to catch some of the surfing competitions held annually during this time, with local and international surfers riding the waves. Island Day Trips to Take From Pattaya City

Just 2 hours away from densely populated Bangkok is Pattaya, a popular holiday destination for locals and foreigners alike. While Pattaya City may not boast of idyllic beaches for that relaxing time you are looking for, there are many islands near Pattaya with pristine sandy beaches and clear waters for that respite from your daily stresses.

If you’re looking for some relaxing beach time, here are our recommendations to a few of the islands near Pattaya you can consider

Koh Larn (Coral Island)

Probably the most popular islands from Pattaya City because of its proximity. Blessed for its white-sand beaches, this island is perfect for a lazy day just sun tanning, with 6 beaches to choose from.

Those looking for some fun in the water can also try out various water sports like banana boat, parasailing and Jet Ski. While snorkelling is possible, you should probably save it for another island due to large amount of boat traffic, especially over the weekends. The island is also pretty set up with restaurants on the island so you don’t have to worry about not finding food.

White-sand beach at Koh Larn

To get to Koh Larn, you can catch a regular ferry from Bali Hai Pier that takes about 40 mins one way or charter a speedboat that will take you there in 20 minutes.

Koh Sak

A small neighbour of Koh Larn, Koh Sak is a tiny horseshoe-shaped island, once an exclusive private island for the rich and famous, including the first men on the moon Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin.

The island’s U-shaped bay where the beach sits makes a great shelter for marine life and for snorkelling and diving. A wreck of the sunken HTMS Kut scuttled by the Royal Thai Navy makes a spot for divers, with frequent spotting of Bamboo Sharks and Hawksbill Turtles.

Koh Sak is only accessible by speed boat and takes about 1 hour.

Koh Phai (Bamboo Island)

With one of the nicest reefs around the islands, as well as the wreck of HTMS Khram, Koh Phai is a popular island frequented by those looking for an adventurous time underwater. Even if you’re not a diver, you can still sunbathe on its beach or snorkel out to explore the beautiful coral reefs.

As one of the islands under the protection of the Royal Thai Navy, there are no facilities and overnight stays are not allowed so be prepared to bring your own food and water, unless you join an island tour.

As with Koh Sak, there are no regular ferries servicing Koh Phai, and it’s only accessible by speed boat, 2 hours from Bali Hai Pier.

Koh Sichang

While its beaches are not as pristine and picturesque, Koh Sichang makes a nice island day trip for those looking for a little sightseeing on the side. Visit the remains of the former summer retreat built for King Chulalongkorn, or learn more about Buddhist culture by visiting the Yellow Buddha with beautiful views from the lookout or trek up a hill to find the only replica of Buddha’s footprint in Thailand.

Regular ferry services between Si Racha (north of Pattaya) and Koh Sichang takes about 20 minutes each way.

Koh Klet Kaew (Monkey Island)

As the name suggests, this island is home to Macaques and is a nice day island day trip for photographers. Be welcomed by hundreds of monkeys as you arrive. These monkeys are accustomed to human contact and have become “photoholics”, they will gladly post for a picture or two.

You definitely won’t want to be lazing on the beach with these monkeys, but it’s definitely worth a trip for that interesting experience.

Experiences to Make your Holiday a Memorable One

Travelling is one of the best things you can do. Beyond exploring a different city or country that differs from the one you grew up or live in, travelling also brings about a range of emotions: from excitement to joy, and the fact that you are returning from your holiday with new memories for keeps.

Do a simple search and you’ll find results of different articles sharing “memorable travel experiences” that you should include on your bucket list. What exactly defines a memorable experience? Does it involve an adrenaline-pumping activity like skydiving or a 5-night train journey on the Trans-Siberian Railway? Or can it simply be something that made you thoroughly enjoy the moment while you were on your well-deserved break?

We have put together 5 experiences that while not mind-blowingly unique, will still make you smile when you reminisce that holiday you took.

1. Sleep under the stars at Gili Lankanfushi Maldives

At Gili Lankanfushi Maldives, their overwater villas extend up with a rooftop terrace where you can enjoy the privacy of lying under the moon and night sky. Choose to sleep under the stars in full comfort, as you lay hand in hand spotting constellations and listening to the lapping waves before falling asleep under the moonlight. What a romantic way to spend time together on your holiday.

2. Sing and dance with the live band at Centerstage at Hard Rock Hotel Bali

Centerstage at Hard Rock Hotel Bali is the first thing that catches your attention. Lying at the heart of the hotel, it welcomes you the moment you step out of your transport. This multi-hyphenate venue doubles up as a lobby, a bar, a live music venue, and even includes a rock museum of memorabilia.

Join the band every night as they sing live, sing along with them as they belt out classics to the latest hits. The floor is yours if you are feeling up to it, dance away to the crowd favourites like “YMCA” as the entire Hard Rock crew joins in that iconic dance. It’s definitely an amazing way to charge up your holiday with some adrenaline-pumping vibes!

3. Go trekking at The Lakehouse Cameron Highland’s backyard

Nature lovers will enjoy this trek in the private hill forest behind The Lakehouse Cameron Highlands. Unlike the more popular Mossy Forest that has lined paths, this trek takes you off the beaten path Walk along narrow paths that were cut by retired head gardener Rajah and two men in 1994, where what started as a simple fifteen-minute trail became an hour-long one for adventurous guests.

With difficulty levels of 3 to 5 at different spots involving steep climbs and challenging steps, it is not a simple walk in the forest. What you will be rewarded with is an expanded knowledge of nature’s flora and fauna, and the occasional wildlife if you’re lucky! We know it because we walked this off the beaten path.

4. Enjoy a picnic and swim on a remote island in Langkawi

Imagine spending time alone with the one you love on a remote island, just the two of you. Turn that into reality with the Castaway Picnic at Casa del Mar Langkawi. Be picked up by a private boat and crew and cruise through views of dramatic limestone cliffs, a common sight of the many islands in Langkawi.

A tent with flowing nets and comfortable cushions will be set up for your luxurious picnic on the beach, making it an Instagram-worthy moment. Enjoy gourmet bites from your picnic basket accompanied by a minibar of your choice. Spend the day together swimming, sunbathing, relaxing, and just enjoying each other’s company. Definitely a moment from your holiday to be etched in your memory for keeps!

5. Take part in an interactive dinner with the chef at The Boathouse Phuket

When on a holiday, it’s a pleasure to indulge your taste buds with a good meal and even better in a private setting. Consider levelling up it up with the Captain’s Table at The Boathouse Phuket.

Beyond a private dining experience overlooking a beautiful view of Kata Beach, you can expect to be entertained by their chef as he prepares your dishes live, and explains them as they are served. Pair it with recommended wines from their wine cellar, carefully selected and suggested by their sommelier. Enjoy this truly interactive session, a memorable experience any foodie would love!

Nature and Outdoor Activities in Phuket

As the largest island in Thailand, Phuket has more to offer. Phuket is more than just a beach destination, this amazing island is perfect for all nature lovers and adventure seekers!

1) Khao To Sae

A good asphalt road leads to Monkey Hill (or Tosae Hill); it’s a great place for walking and jogging, but most travelers, of course, come here for a different reason. Monkey Hill in Phuket is well known, thanks to many wild macaques around here. You just cannot miss them when climbing the hill.

Besides, there are three equipped observation platforms on Monkey Hill: the first one is with shops, restaurants and a view on the sea; the second one—with benches and gazebos; and, finally, the third one—with outstanding panoramic views of the coast. The platforms are perfect places to sit and enjoy the endless sea, view the city under your feet, the golden sunset and the first stars in the sky.

2) Phuket Elephant Sanctuary

There have been raising concerns about animal tourism in Thailand, especially when it comes to the country’s national animal. There are reports that show elephants across the country being abused for tourism and logging purposes over the years, but thankfully things are starting to change. You can be part of the changing force here in Phuket!

A visit to one of the elephant sanctuaries is definitely rewarding; here you can interact with the peaceful pachyderms in an ethical way while you learn more about the elephants. There is absolutely no elephant riding going on here, and that’s a good thing. There are a few such places to visit on the island, one that comes highly recommended is the Phuket Elephant Sanctuary.

3) Hanuman World

Hanuman World Phuket is an exciting yet safe treetop ziplining adventure, located west of Phuket Town. With 16 thrilling lines up to 400 meters in length, dodging between huge and ancient trees in dense hillside jungle, it is a great way for families and thrill-seekers to get close to nature without risking either your own safety or that of the trees around you.

Opened in March 2016, the large adventure park also features a skywalk, allowing you to traverse the forest canopy at a rather more sedate pace, stopping to look at the remarkable wild trees and plant life around you. The walk leads to a large platform with a trampoline-like sunbed and a bar for trying out local fruits and different juices. There is also a “roller zip line” which traverses the whole park at high speed in one long, twisting line.

4) Windmill Viewpoint

An Instagram-Worthy place in Phuket. Situated above the hill between Ya Nui and Nai Harn Beach, this small and breezy viewpoint offers a spectacular sunset view overlooking the Andaman Sea.

This viewpoint derives its name from the tall, picturesque three-bladed windmill. From this viewpoint, you can catch a glimpse of the long-tail boats, fishing boats, beautiful coastline and sprawling seascape.

To get to the Windmill Viewpoint, it is best to travel from Kata Beach. Then drive south past the Karon Viewpoint and go straight towards Nai Harn Beach. Drive toward the direction of Prompthep Cape,  just a few hundred metres after Nai Harn, you will see a small hill after the lake, follow the trail until you reach a sharp left curve. At there, keep left to a narrow dirt road, after a short drive, you will arrive at this charming viewpoint.
